Described by Dee Dee herself as a ‘history of New Orleans as told through song’, Dee Dee’s Feathers is big band jazz with an extra helping of swagger topped with the faultess, engaging vocals of Bridewater.’One Fine Thing’ is pure rat pack stuff while ‘Big Chief’ sees Dee Dee adopting a playful, almost intoxicated tone on a big jazz-blues production, ‘Dee Dee’s Feathers’ is a pacey, percussive, urgent riff, ‘New Orleans’ is a sultry cocktail bar finger foot tapper, ‘Congo Square’ has a sort of sneaking, multi-layered groove that snakes along while ‘Whoopin’ Blues’ is a racey jazz-blues finger clicker. You get a real sense of Dee Dee and her band having a lot of fun making this album. (JS)
