...Steve Lacy and Masa Kwate do something quite different on their wonderful and unique LP Shots. Neither is there any kind of conventionally direct interaction, where one player plays something and the other supports or counters, nor is there a sensibility of total independence. The American soprano saxophonist and the Japanese percussionist have a special understanding, no doubt a kind of cultural negotiation, that gives their joint activities a simultaneous atmosphere of interaction and independence.
