About

NMC Recordings presents ‘Where the Paths End’, a new album by Irish experimental composer Seán Clancy, bringing together key works written between 2013 and 2025 that explore lived experience, repetition, and loss through a distinctive deadpan aesthetic.

The album centres on Clancy’s practice of “translation”: rendering everyday experiences and environments into sound without commentary or judgement, allowing meaning to emerge through attentive listening. Rooted in minimalist and post-minimalist traditions, Clancy’s music is characterised by sparseness, slow unfolding processes, looping structures, and subtle timbral shifts, drawing lineage from figures such as Morton Feldman while remaining closely tied to contemporary experimental sound worlds. The title work, Where the Paths End, translates the act of walking through London, Birmingham, and Edinburgh into sound. Existing both as soundwalks and an ensemble work, it reflects on urban change, memory, and the therapeutic act of walking during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

June 2026

Music on which to ponder while representing the inquisitive spirit of postmodernism as it once was and always should have been. The whole album benefits from an unwavering dedication such as Roderick Chadwick and the Plus- Minus Ensemble bring to all their projects.

Clancy's sonic artistry is refreshingly straightforward and lacking in pretension…Each of these pieces achieves rich suggestiveness, using simple means and materials in obliquely referential and artfully evocative ways.
