About
Dieter Ammann is one of the great symphonic composers of our time. His symphonic works, the triptych Core — Turn — Boost and the orchestral work glut, which are available as studio recordings for the first time on this CD, have been performed on many of the world’s major stages, from London to Berlin, Hamburg to Paris, and Boston to Seoul. Pierre Boulez, an admirer of Ammann’s music, describes how “Ammann’s orchestral works form the synthesis of an improvisatory habitus and meticulous care in their elaboration”, being at once highly reflected and artificially spontaneous. And such individually manifested contradictions, complexity, and Virtuosic leaps of thought give Ammann’s music something profoundly human, contemporary, and lifelike. With this world premiere studio recording, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and its chief conductor, Jonathan Nott, make the music of the great symphonist Dieter Ammann audible in every detail.

It may take a few encounters with any of these pieces for the listener to move beyond the sense of slithering unease competing with nervous exhilaration. The effort to do so is worthwhile, not only as a process in itself but for the reward of a music that sounds like now, in all its frenetic dissipation.
