About

The informal musical and poetic evening gatherings called Schubertiads, or the Schubertiade, were held in Vienna already during the short lifetime of the composer. The soirées featured the music by Franz Schubert and also of other attendees and were sponsored by his wealthy friends and admirers of his work. They date back to 1815 where Schubert himself played the piano accompanying the singers. Later, the events were also held in meadows around Vienna where groups of artists, musicians actors and poets performed the latest songs by the composer. The programme prepared for this recording by pianist Andrzej Pikul proves however, that it is the piano in various instrumentations that can be seen as the central point of the Schubertiade.

This new recording from Dux offers a variety of instrumentation and songs to portray this period in Schubert’s life and oevre.
