About

Forbidden love, the extremes of passion, and a soaring lyricism... In Piramo e Tisbe, one of his very last operas, Hasse broke the rules of opera seria and created a masterpiece. With a prestigious team of soloists, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin restores it to life in all its vivid colours, this work of astonishing modernity that was greatly admired by Mozart.

December 2025

The piece has been recorded before by La Stagione Frankfurt, but this new version is better, with livelier tempi and superb singing from two bright-voiced sopranos, Anett Fritsch and Roberta Mameli, in the title roles even if it is sometimes difficult to tell them apart without close attention to the libretto.

January 2026

This excellent performance is well worth investigating, not least as a gentle introduction to the music of the man who, like Handel, was known in Italy as 'il caro Sassone' ('the dear Saxon').
