A key work of French literature, Choderlos de Laclos's Les Liaisons dangereuses has transported countless readers for centuries to the decadent atmosphere in which the French nobility lived shortly before the Revolution.

By nature, this musical interpretation of Les Liaisons dangereuses is a very personal reading; it is "my" own version of the story. And undoubtedly also, as I realized while choosing and working on this program, a version closer to the emotions of the female characters. Sensitive pieces contrast with dramatic ones; some describe action, others moods. It is an almost fortuitous blend of well-known and relatively little-known works, which find themselves here in a context that was certainly not intended for them when they were created. Readers of Les Liaisons might for a long time believe they are reading a romance novel. But who loves whom? What feelings resist all the intrigue? What other feelings, not expressed by the writers, are hidden in these letters?

The program begins with the introduction of the story's characters, none of whom yet suspect the impending imbroglio and its tragic end. It consists of a five-movement suite with snapshots of Paris.
