Rarely performed Lied repertoire of the musical Romantic period. How does one achieve inner freedom? The acclaimed and award-winning baritone Äneas Humm and pianist Doriana Tchakarova explore this question musically on their new album "Libertas".

They explore rarely heard Lied repertoire from the Romantic period and the 20th century by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Amy Beach and Joseph Marx. To be truly artistically free requires courage, will and independence. The path to inner freedom led the composers who were brought together on this album partly into solitude and required sacrifices from them, partly they were recognised authorities in their individuality. On the one hand, it was the personal path of life that wrestled with freedom, on the other hand, the songs approach the subject through their content. In this way, the great theme of freedom can be heard here in numerous facets and shows that individual independence is not only an internal matter, but also manifests itself externally.
