About

ATMA Classique, Ensemble ArtChoral and Mecenat Musica are proud to present Art choral, volume 6: Moderne with Ensemble ArtChoral under the direction of Matthias Maute.

Volume 6 surveys modern choral repertoire from 20th and 21st century composers, including Canadian Andrew Balfour (Praeter rerum seriem), Americans Samuel Barber (Agnus Dei), Aaron Copland (Help Us, O Lord), and Morten Lauridsen (O magnum mysterium), and English composer Edward Elgar, among others.

The album features outstanding works in the modern choral repertoire, some of which have become a reference point for any choir open to contemporary music.

The ART CHORAL series is a unique and ambitious project surveying the history of choral singing over six centuries, from the Renaissance to the present day. Consisting of 15 volumes, the series will roll out over seven years and will feature works by 70 composers from the 16th to the 21st centuries, as well as 15 webcast concerts and 150 videos.

Ensemble ArtChoral (formerly Ensemble vocal Arts-Quebec) is a professional choir whose mission is to present the great tradition of choral singing in Quebec, Canada, and abroad. Following almost 40 years of leadership by founder Yves Courville, in 2019 the choir appointed two-time Juno Award winner Matthias Maute as its artistic director. The Ensemble received the Opus Award for Musical Event of the Year in 2020.
