About

Dejan Lazić is back with a new live recording from the Gstaad Mehunin Festival 2022. This performance features Johannes Brahms’ 2 Rhapsodies op. 79, written in 1879 during the composer’s summer stay in Pörtschach, Austria. A popular favorite both in Mozart’s time and in the present, the “Linz Sonata”, Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” and Schubert’s “The Shepherd on the Rock” (in Dejan’s arrangement for piano solo) are also included in this release. Closing the programme is Dejan’s own composition “Rhapsody in Istrian Style” op. 18b — this work was inspired by the folk music of the Croatian peninsula Istria and already many Croatian pianists have been fascinated by it.

Awards and reviews

December 2024

His Rhapsody in Istrian Style is ‘loosely based’ on his own Concerto in the Istrian Style, which he recorded with the Munich Radio Orchestra in 2023 (BR-Klassik). Improvisatory elements and harmonic procedures of the Second Viennese School vie with folk material in this stylistically diverse and technically challenging music.
