About

“Contemplation has enabled a powerful introspection within me, etching a path to my innermost self. It is with great anticipation that I now reveal this path, in the hope of forging a heartfelt connection with you. I present this to you, imbued with the sincerity of my emotion, and extend an invitation for you to accompany me on this journey.” – Huw Montague Rendall

Contemplation is the debut album for Huw Montague Rendall, showcasing his multifaceted talent and stylistic sensitivity.

It spans three centuries, the idioms of opera, operetta, Broadway musical, lied and mélodie with arias and songs by Mozart, Thomas, Gounod, Duparc, Messager, Mahler, Korngold, Rodgers and Britten.

In a duet from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte the baritone is joined by Canadian soprano Elisabeth Boudreault.

“A voice of exhilarating beauty” – ResMusica

“a fantastic talent” – Le Figaro

December 2024

The first thing one notices in this wide-ranging recital from rising baritone Huw Montague Rendall is his seriousness of purpose...There’s also top-rank work from the orchestra and conductor; a real collaboration has taken place, and the results are quite something.

November 2024

Montague Rendall’s characterisations are consistently focused and tellingly insightful throughout...It’s a superb recital and a most distinguished debut, and I cannot recommend it too highly.

29th August 2024

His debut solo recording justifies the buzz. Hamlet’s soliloquy from Ambroise Thomas’s opera – velvet-toned, nuanced, with beautifully floated high notes – sets the tone for an eclectic programme on themes of self-discovery...he’s heartbreakingly engaging as Britten’s Billy Budd and puts in a classy turn as Carousel’s Billy Bigelow.
