About
Christus der Christus der Meister (1827) is the second of three Christus oratorios penned by the Dessau court Kapellmeister Friedrich Schneider (1786-1853). Schneider's Christus trilogy, which was originally planned as a tetralogy of four full-length oratorios, is of great significance in terms of genre history. This composition is also special in that it reaches from the story of the birth to the story of the Passion and thus encompasses the entire life of Jesus. Unfortunately, Schneider did not compose the originally planned fourth oratorio, Christus der Verherrlichte.
