[Barber] Bullock employs a fast vibrato, which adds vibrancy, and she possesses a lovely timbre in all registers. I always wish to hear as much of James Agee’s haunting text as possible, and Bullock enunciates more clearly than anyone else I know except Upshaw.

In her first solo album, Walking in the Dark (Nonesuch), Julia Bullock is described not by voice type but as a “classical singer”. If this hints at range and versatility, as well as emotional power, a Bullock hallmark, her choice of repertoire confirms that impression.
