About
Works for Viola and Piano by Sergei Rachmaninov (2 Melodies, op. 38, Cello Sonata arranged for Viola, et al). During the first lockdown, violist Mathis Rochat rediscovered the music of Rachmaninoff for himself.
He was so taken wit h the works of the Russian late romantic that he decided to put together a complete programme with his own arrangements for viola and piano.
The aim was to give the Russian-inspired melodies completely new colours through the choice of instruments.

The composer’s G minor Sonata (originally for cello) sits at the heart of this appealing viola and piano collection. Rochat and Mısırlıoğlu enthral in that centrepiece, but bring their warm timbre to a clutch of shorter pieces, too, including the delightful Dreams and Daisies.
