Chineke! here presents one of the biggest and best collections of his music yet released. At its heart is the heavenly Violin Concerto; Elena Urioste and the orchestra under Kevin John Edusei give a wonderful performance full of fiery spirit and delicacy

Well-made and generous music, then, played with purpose and spirit by an ensemble where the sense of shared enjoyment (from both the perspective of discovery and appreciation) is palpable.

Whilst the only premiere on here is actually a work by Coleridge-Taylor’s daughter Avril, these lively performances of several of his suites are compelling and hugely enjoyable. They are coupled with recording of the Nonet and for me the standout work and performance on this set – the Violin Concerto – exquisitely played by the Elena Urioste, and worth the cost of the album alone.
