Beethoven: Symphonies Nos 1 & 3

Beethoven: Symphonies Nos 1 & 3
While the orchestra’s beautifully rounded collective sound is a world away from today’s period-style hegemony, it has such quality in its own right that nothing sounds anachronistic.

Aside from some swift tempos in the Eroica (though not quite the composer’s metronome markings, mind you), Noseda doesn’t seem much interested in historically informed performance practice. Violins are seated side by side and the string section is beefy by today’s standards, with vibrato freely employed.
