October 2022

Detail is strong in The Firebird, though muted horn and offstage trumpet can’t easily be heard (brass recession can be a problem). The Rite of Spring is assured from the start, woodwind timbres gleaming, polyrhythms spectacularly clear in ‘Procession of the Sage’, with a few rapid surprises – ‘Spring Rounds’ and a fair bit of the second part; I’d certainly want to hear it again.

Nov/Dec 2022

[Firebird] Jurowski comes closer than anyone else I’ve heard to making the entire score sound like a whole, never losing the thread and always captivating the ear. The LPO has superb first desks, so the extensive solo work is enchanting.

September 2022

The key element distinguishing Jurowski’s readings is ‘movement’. His Firebird has fluidity and an innate sense of physicality. There is great suppleness to everything.

4th September 2022

it is The Firebird and The Rite that give this disc its heft — the former lush, limpid and sinuous, and the latter a performance thrilling in its violence and intensity.
