Vocal music occupies an important place in the uvre of the composer Moritz Eggert, with songs for baritone and piano being particularly numerous. As a pianist, he regularly works with outstanding artists in this vocal field, and so, in addition to the one-hour cycle "Neue Dichter Lieben" (not included on this recording), a number of shorter cycles and individual songs have been created over the years, most of which are now available here as first recordings - with the internationally renowned baritone Peter Schne and the composer at the piano.

Eggert's choice of texts is sometimes quite unconventional. In addition to poems by Birgit Mller-Wieland ("Paradies Berlin"), Helmut Krausser ("Krausseriana"), Ludwig Steinherr ("Ein Dichter stirbt") and Albert Ostermaier ("ausklang"), there is also a collage of texts by or about Georg Bchner, among them an "arrest warrant of the Grand Ducal Court of Hesse". In the two-song "Neue Dichter Lieben Appendix", Eggert has set to music the brusque rejection of a requested poet as well as the complete (bad) critique of the cycle's premiere.
