About

Andris Nelsons and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig continue their award-winning Bruckner cycle. This time the Symphonies are coupled with the Prelude and Liebestod from Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde. There’s a consistently superb playing from all sections of the orchestra, but it’s the transparency of the strings that gives the textures such buoyancy; nothing is too emphatic or insistent.” - The Guardian

Awards and reviews

11th February 2022

All of the aspects that I so admired in previous albums are all present and correct here: the warmth of the strings, immensely characterful woodwind playing, and a blazing brass sound at the climaxes. The First Symphony is especially impressive in this regard, with Nelsons ensuring that the string passagework is never buried in the mix, even when the brass are at their strongest.
