About
None of the works by Joseph Haydn presented here has ever been heard in this form in our time. Michael Ducker, director and spiritus rector of Nuovo Aspetto, has searched in libraries and archives and found Haydn works that fit perfectly to the chamber music instrumentation of his ensemble.
He has re-edited the originals or adapted them to today's musical requirements.
The result is a fascinating project with amazingly coherent sounding chamber music versions. For example, the amusing Symphony in C major Hob.I:61 is heard here in the arrangement by Haydn contemporary and Salzburg harpist Father Meingosius Gaelle.

One might have thought this too exiguous a line-up to convey the force of a score that includes oboes, horns, trumpets and timpani as well as strings. Yet thanks to the more incisive, wiry timbre of the 18th century harp, as compared to the modern instrument, and the vigorous period playing of the string trio in a focused, forward recorded acoustic, surprisingly little of the work’s spirit is lost.
