About

The latest CD album in the 'Concerts Frozen in Time' series is a recording of a concert held during the 15th Chopin and His Europe Festival in Warsaws Church of the Holy Cross, in the presence of the heart of Chopin.

Two combined ensembles, Collegium 1704 and Collegium Vocale 1704, conducted by Vaclav Luks, presented two very special sacred works: Luigi Cherubinis Requiem in C minor for mixed choir and orchestra, first performed in Paris on an anniversary of the death of King Louis XVI in 1816, and Karol Krupinskis Te Deum composed for the solemnity of coronation of Tsar Nicholas I the King of Poland, which premiered under the composer in front of tsar in Warsaw in 1829.

Beautiful yet rarely performed works from the time of Chopin in consummate interpretation of musicians specialising in historically informed performance.

Here’s a very fine period instrument recording of Cherubini’s Requiem. Conductor Václav Luks adopts a searching approach to the opening Kyrie...The choir – at 20 members, chamber-sized – is supercharged, but has plenty of discipline too, with punchy attack and telling use of dynamic contouring in the Lacrimosa.
