Though remastered, the recordings rather show their age – resulting in no small amount of charm. Shulman’s music, though, is full of orchestral colour and narrative flavour. What a shame he didn’t write more for the big screen.

[Port of New York] Shulman’s demands are harsh, and the performance is exemplary. The way the orchestra can suddenly soften from rushing hubbub to a more cushioned sound, and thence to a happy-go-lucky gait, is remarkable...This is a superbly entertaining disc that holds real treasures, which also fills out our appreciation of Shulman substantially.
