There can be no doubt that Westhoff was a consummate master of his instrument, if these sonatas are any indication of his technical proficiency. Of course, much of this interest is generated by the fine period instrument playing of Plantier. He is nicely in tune and has a good instinct for tempos and phrasing. The same may be said for his continuo group, operating under the name Les Plaisirs du Parnasse.
