About
In this wonderfully planned programme the whimsical poetry of York Bowens Hans Andersen fragmentsmusic for a fully-fledged technique, despite the fairy-tale titlesis pleasingly complemented by the bravura of the studies. Nicolas Namoradze proves more than equal to the demands of both.

Namoradze brings a deft touch to these charming works [the Andersen Fragments], teasing out their respective tenderness, melancholy and wit with subtlety and poise…[In the Op. 46 Studies] Namoradze once more brings total technical assurance alongside exuberance and an unshowy sense of integrity to these fiendish pieces. An altogether enjoyable disc.

Fearsome technical challenges are tossed off easily; and even in the thickest passages, Namoradze’s control of balance assures that the music’s inner lines emerge with clarity. More importantly, though...he captures the music’s dazzling expressive range. Excellent sound and, as I’ve said, first-rate notes. A winner!

A terrific pianist...with all the colouristic and stylistic attributes one could wish for allied to a formidable technique, the kind of musician whose artistry is like a compelling novel where you can hardly wait for what comes next...Superbly recorded and performed with such distinction, this release must be an early Awards nominee.

the two unashamedly Romantic Concert Studies cast their stylistic glance backwards. Namoradze projects the grandeur of the first and the Lisztian pyrotechnics of the second to perfection. Fascinating in terms of repertoire, this album also introduces Namoradze to the international stage in a sonic jewel of a recording.

His sheer technical brilliance will make you catch your breath time and again, but he’s also a born story-teller, bringing Andersen’s Metal Pig and Tin Soldier to life with an abundance of charm, wit and warmth. Despite their rather utilitarian titles, the twelve Op. 46 studies are scarcely less characterful in his hands, the alla marcia exercise ‘for the glissando’ a particular delight.
