About

Internationally acclaimed Irish soprano Paula Murrihy and American pianist Tanya Blaich take the listener on a journey through the ups and downs of love in this irresistible song recital. Each set of songs shares the theme of love, and in style most are either based on folk music or possess a folk-like quality. The album begins with Brahms, whose love of folk song infuses this selection of his songs, followed by Lieder from Mahler’s famous settings of folk poetry, Des Knaben Wunderhorn. Murrihy and Blaich then take us to France, in Debussy’s sensuous Chansons de Bilitis, and to Norway, in Grieg’s tributes to his wife, Nina: the Sechs Lieder, Op.48. The recital concludes with folk songs from Murrihy’s native Ireland, including a song from Dublin arranged by Herbert Hughes and from which the album takes its name: I Will Walk with my Love.

Awards and reviews

At a time when many opera singers are out of work and chances to hear the full-throttle human voice in all its glory are few, a new recital disc as good as this one feels more than usually like a treat...Murrihy’s voice dances through ]the Grieg's] melodic twists and turns. Blaich, her playing unfailingly expressive and finely judged, is supportive rather than soloistic and lets Murrihy hold the spotlight.
