About
Polish violist Krzysztof Komendarek-Tymendorf's debut solo album highlights two major works for the solo viola repertoire. Soviet composer Fyodor Druzhinin is a renowned violist with whom Shostakovich dedicated his Viola Sonata. His Sonata for Viola Solo, written in 1959, reveals Druzhunin to be a highly talented composer whose virtuoso treatment of the viola is second to none. Weinbergs close association with Druzhunin has also led to the compositions of the four Solo Viola Sonatas (No. 1 dedicated for and edited by Druzhunin), each piece having a unique and individual style from another. Sonata No. 3, Op. 135 combines technical and emotional challenges to the performer.
