About
Spanning over two decades, George Perle's three serenades offer a snapshot of the composer's never-ending quest to find a musical language in the wake of the Second Viennese School. Drawing on his admiration and scholarship of Berg, Bartókian and Stravinskian aesthetics, and references and homage to both European classical and popular American music, the works on this disc demonstrate Perle's 'twelve-tone tonality' at its finest.

This splendid, well-performed disc is indispensable for devotees of late 20th-century American music (and should appeal more widely), with beautifully clear sound.
