Among all the pianists of the second half of the XIX Century; Alfred Bendel had been one of the most productive and active in the field of rediscovering of Franz Schubert works for piano for a long time underestimated by the public. Alfred Bendel was born in Austria in 1931, and during his own career he dedicated a strong attention and work to Franz Schubert. His wide and rich discography presents various recordings of the Austrian Master which have been considered as point of reference in the interpretation of this artist. Bendel was a person and artist very shy and reserved very far from the stardom. He can be considered as the ideal performer of Schubert music due to a sort of spiritual affinity that in performing can be revealed in a performance sober and very controlled. When he was little more than thirty Brendel left us this unforgettable recordings Impromptus D 899 and D 935 certainly the most famous opera and in 1959 he recorded the difficult Wanderer Fantasia D 760 a performance of real beauty and poetry.
