Trinity’s mixed young adults are effortless in the ease with which they respond to Layton’s exacting demands. The ground is hit running with a Magnificat whose iterations of the word ‘magnify’ explode in radiant exultation, cutting through the impeccably English collegiate timbres that lubricate Finzi’s flowing lines.

Under Layton’s scrupulous direction, the mixed-voiced Choir of Trinity College Cambridge exceeds even its own high standards in what proves to be a richly satisfying programme.

What a beautifully crafted disc this is - not just in its quality (and it really is Trinity at their absolute best) but also in its shape and programming...Uplifting, moving, poignant, triumphant – this gloriously, lovingly performed recital of Finzi’s music fully reflects the breadth of the composer’s masterly skill at writing for choir.
