About
Blenda (1876) composed by Per August Ölander, often regarded as both the crowning achievement and closing of the circle in Ölander’s artistic development. Blenda portrays the legend of a Swedish heroine, who led the rural women of Värend in an attack on the Danish army. Blenda demonstrates the depth and breadth of Ölander’s musical talent, as well as a unique and culturally transcending eclecticism. The music is well entrenched within its own cultural context whilst at the same time displays a creative blend of other sources of inspiration.
