About

Three composers whose contributions to the Anglican choral tradition are rich in historical significance: no less than the Abbey itself, much of this music is inseparably bound up with the national celebrations or commemorations appropriate to war, coronation and royal marriage.

Awards and reviews

July 2019

The unison singing of the trebles in Stanford’s A Song of Wisdom is exquisite, while the full choir relishes both the drama and the wistful beauty of famous anthems such as Bairstow’s Blessed city and Harris’s Bring us, O Lord God. Peter Holder’s eloquent accompaniments provide seamless support and splendidly demonstrate the range and colour of the Abbey organ.

June 2019

The notoriously noisy purlieu of the Abbey does not intrude and the organ sounds in fine fettle. The expert craftsmanship of these three composers has been truly well served by James O’Donnell and his wonderful musicians.

June 2019

Consistently cracking good performances with a generous measure of clarity, sensitivity and, where appropriate, drama.
