With more than 500,000 clicks on their YouTube video of Folia-variations by Marais and Corelli plus a wide array of enthusiastic comments (“spectacular”, “great”, “splendid”, “amazing”), violist Jakob Rattinger and violinist Lina Tur Bonet meet the demands of the many music lovers who are keen on fireworks, virtuosity and positive energy.
Through this fictive competition between their two instruments, the performers illustrate in practice many of the aspects of the evolution of their respective instruments, with the absolutely breathtaking Folia-variations putting the icing on the cake of this very special proposal.

Rattinger on the viol begins with vigour…Tur Bonet on the violin then steps up to the plate with Corelli’s Op. 5 No. 5, that staple of baroque violinists everywhere. Her sound is sweet, with superb clarity. But amid all the ornamental spaghetti there is little sense of pulse and dance.
