About

The Stefan Zweig Trio was founded in 2012 in Vienna by Sibila Konstantinova (piano), Kei Shirai (violin) and Tristan Cornut (cello).

With the piano trios by Zemlinsky and Korngold (from 1896 and 1909/10) recorded on this production, the three passionate chamber musicians bring together compositions that offer both a retrospective and an outlook on their time of origin.

Awards and reviews

April 2019

[Korngold] was all of 12 years old when he wrote his piano trio Op. 1. It’s a full-blooded, enthusiastic work, if anything over-stuffed with ideas and effects…The Stefan Zweig Trio give vivid, colourful accounts that bring out the best in both pieces. There’s much enthusiasm and communicative, conversational joy between the three players and their warmth of tone.

March 2019

Is it best to power through [the Korngold[ with impetus and edge – as the Stefan Zweig Trio do here – or try for something more noble and mahogany…? That’s a tricky one but this ensemble’s decision to take the former approach seems like a wise one…The ensemble isn’t tempted to over-indulge those occasional glimpses of art nouveau curvature in [the Scherzo] that probably aren’t ripe enough for full exploitation.
