About

Following on from the last CD of Bach from Lincoln, here we present Philip Rushforth and his Bach from Chester Cathedral. This CD complements the other CDs in this series which has featured recitals from the cathedrals of Durham, Salisbury, Liverpool, Lincoln as well as this from Chester. This series was planned to show Bach off on a cathedral organ rather than the well known interpretations on historic or modern organs.

Awards and reviews

November 2018

Rushworth at Chester favours fairly plain colours for much of his programme. His playing is clean, solid and smooth, with steady and appropriate tempo choices and some lovely light touches, as for example in the opening Prelude in D minor, BWV539, which he gives to a floating, gently wavering flute.
