This glorious album illuminates a very different side to the Peruvian tenor…The album ranges freely across South and Central America…Flórez responds to this variety with sensitivity, bringing a rich array of vocal styles…Packed with delights, produced and performed with great care, sensitivity and heart.

Flórez is very much at home in this repertoire, for the most part, and particularly in the songs from his native Peru…Most of the programme is enjoyable, and a few songs are absolute knockouts…His tone may have lost some of its lightness and ease, perhaps, but its radiant tonal sheen remains a joy.

The booklet makes a strong case for an operatic voice in this music…and successful it is too, with Flórez’s voice intertwining elegantly with the rhythmic combo for each song. A couple of tenorial flourishes aside, he contrasts smoothness with snappy delivery and clear enunciation across such classics as Cucurrucucú, Guantanamera and Volver, and the swaying Aquarela do Brasil, in which his Brazilian Portuguese is pretty immaculate.
