About
CPO's edition of Michael Haydn's complete symphonies began in 1991 with the Slovak Chamber Orchestra under Bohdan Warchal and continued in 1995 with the German Chamber Orchestra of Neuss under Johannes Goritzki and Frank Beermann. The present recording under the conductor Lavard Skou Larsen concludes this project with the composer's Symphonies Nos. 13 and 20. Two movements from Symphony No. 13 in the version from the Göttweig Abbey containing an additional flute part are performed as special bonus tracks. Although the addition of a flute part did not require Michael Haydn to intervene significantly in the previously composed work, the Göttweig versions offer insights into the compositional and performance practices of his times. The CD also includes Haydn's first Notturno.
