The concertos on this two disc set feature the Milanolo, a five string violin built especially for Milan Pala by Jan Hus Bursik and his sons Jan and Bronislav. With its additional string the instrument, played like a conventional violin, has a resonance bordering that of a cello or viola.

The concertos by Adrian Democ, Pascal Manolios, Evgeny Irshai and Marian Lejava, who also conducts Ensemble Opera Diversa, exploit the Milanolo. These are far from conventional Baroque style pieces in modern forms. They are highly original, often inspired by situations, that go off in their own unique directions.
