Awards and reviews

August 2018

As is common with Boulanger, this disc is clearly a labour of love. Orpheus Vokalensemble under Michael Alber are strong advocates, bristling with energy when full-voiced…Albert perfectly judges the ebb and flow of these marvellous works and having so much of Boulanger’s choral music in one place underlines her remarkable achievement in so few years.

Without undue washes of pedal but aided by a fairly enveloping acoustic, the pianist Antonii Baryshevskyi also offers limpid support to a German ensemble of professional voices in the album’s significant premiere on record, Soleils de septembre. Their overcomes a backward microphone placing, and their tenors, in consort, have the right nasal, slightly pinched tone for the idiom.
