About
World premiere recordings of works by contemporary Latvian composer Santa Ratniece (1977) performed by the Latvian Radio Choir and Sinfonietta Riga Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Sigvards Klava. Santa Ratniece’s compositions shine forth brightly and unexpectedly, captivating listeners with their extraordinary sound - pearly, muffled and delicate. Words are not enough to describe her music and illuminate the process of creation. It is the abundant, plentiful imagination that charms and even bewitches listeners in Santa Ratniece’s music.
Santa Ratniece first came in public view in 2004 after winning the 1st prize at the UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers (in the category of composers under 30) for her piece “sens nacre” for ensemble. The Latvian Radio Choir is the professional chamber choir of Latvian Radio which was founded in 1940. The choir of 24 singers has been under the leadership of Sigvards Klava and Kaspars Putnins.
