Cesar Franck (1822 - 1890) remains a major historical figure, but one whose actual music seldom reaches the concert hall, although his organ works are an important part of the repertory.

This new release by MSR Classics affords a rare opportunity to get to hear a selection of Cesar Franck's Melodies, sung by soprano Amy Pfrimmer.

Of the thirteen Melodies none lasts more than four minutes; most are taken from literary sources with Victor Hugo, Alfred de Musset and Sully Prudhomme among their authors.

Thomas Kientz accompanies and swops piano for organ - a Cavaille-Coll of 1864 - for two of Franck's organ works - Pastorale from Six Pieces, Op. 16-21 and the Fantasie from Trois Pieces.
