Following the success of Jonathan Vaughn’s debut solo recording Wagner at the Organ (REGCD394) we are delighted to announce his second solo release, of organ music entirely devoted to Tchaikovsky transcriptions.

This disc features several of Tchaikovsky ‘s major orchestral works, including movements from the 4th and 5th Symphonies, the Overture to Romeo and Juliet and the Nutcracker Suite, in virtuoso transcriptions for solo organ by Edwin Lemare and Vaughn himself.

Jonathan Vaughn is a former organ scholar of St John’s College, Cambridge, and was assistant organist at Wells Cathedral for almost ten years before moving to the USA where he is now Associate Director of Music at Christ Church, Greenwich, CT.

This second solo recording from Jonathan Vaughn demonstrates further his supreme virtuosity in powerfully dramatic repertoire, as well as the immense range of tone colour of the Redcliffe organ, and will capture the imagination of all lovers of Tchaikovsky’s music.

The 1911 Harrison and Harrison organ of St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol is regarded as one of the finest high Romantic organs ever built, and as such is an excellent instrument for these performances. It has one of the widest dynamic ranges of any church organ and we have attempted to preserve that breadth of dynamic from almost inaudible whispers to climaxes of earthshattering power in this recording.
