About

Anna Bonitatibus is one of the most successful mezzo-sopranos of our time. On her new album entitled ‘en travesti’, together with the Munich Radio Orchestra conducted by Corrado Rovaris, she presents the most famous and important arias written over the past three hundred years for women acting in male roles on the opera stage: so-called ‘trouser roles’. The studio recordings by the Bayerischer Rundfunk were made in the summer of 2016, and have now been released on BR-KLASSIK.

Spotlight on this release

Awards and reviews

June 2018

Bonitatibus is clearly at ease in the four languages she uses here, bringing a genuine felling for tragedy to Romeo's 'Deh! Tu bell'anima' from Bellini's I Capuleti e I Montecchi and appreciable charm to Nicklausse's solo. She also sounds entirely at home in Victor's 'Crazy World' which brings this consistently interesting recital to a sultry conclusion.

Opera Now February 2018

Bonitatibus plunges straight into the mix with en travesti, in which she indulges her in interest in ‘developing a hermaphroditism fascination’ (her words). And she does it exceptionally well. Bonitatibus has a quick and controlled vibrato, with a good and lively snap to it- there’s never a sense that she isn’t in control of her considerable resources- and she displays a wide range of vocal colouration and enunciation.
