About
Internationally-acclaimed concert violinist Gwendolyn Masin is joined by the renowned Swiss pianist Simon Bucher her long-term piano partner and friend on this new album. Entitled Flame, the album examines the nature of fire, which can destroy whilst also giving comfort, warmth and light. Gwendolyn chose the title as several of these works were composed during desperate and difficult times, and yet the resulting music is a source of joy and inspiration.

The disc opens with Claude Debussy’s Violin Sonata, to which Masin brings some lovely shaping as well as a distinctive grainy tone, and the courage to bite in and even bring a bit of rough when the moment feels apt…The disc’s final work is the Ravel Sonata, and there’s much to enjoy here…All in all, an expertly cohesive programme full of charms.
