the range of sounds and timbres they produce is really fascinating … a very classy approach, it’s one of those discs that just gets better and better the more often you listen to it

About
Sinfonye, one of the ground-breaking ensembles of Medieval music performance of the 1990’s, under the direction of Stevie Wishart, had a huge hit with this album, previously titled 'Red Iris', in 1996. This 'Istampite' recording, teams two percussionists, Jim Denley and Pedro Estevan, in support her deeply-informed fiddle and hurdy-gurdy renderings of 14th-century Florentine repertoire.
