About

Praised for her colorful, flexible voice and graceful stage presence, Canadian soprano Layla Claire is proud to present Songbird, her first solo recital recording. Songbird features English songs by Britten and Barber, French melodies by Debussy, Bizet, Chausson, and German Lieder by Brahms, Wolf and Strauss. She is accompanied by pianist Marie-Eve Scarfone. An expressive and experienced concert singer, Ms. Claire has worked with Bernard Haitink, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, James Levine, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Kent Nagano. Her extensive international recital presence has included programs of art song at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, CBC Glenn Gould Studio, and a multi-city tour of Canada as the winner of the Eckhardt-Gramatte National Music Competition. While still a member of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, Layla Claire made her Metropolitan Opera debut in Don Carlo, led by Yannick Nezet-Segun. She has since returned to the stage for several guest appearances including the creation of the role of Helena in the Baroque pastiche The Enchanged Island under William Christie's baton, and as Anne Truelove in The Rake's Progress conducted by James Levine.
