The celebrated Choir of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge with director David Skinner, present an enticing recital of sacred choral works by the Italian contemporary composer Claudio Dall'Albero. Drawing on inspiration from earlier forms, polypohny and chant, Dall'Albero's choral works prove at once both powerful and evocative. Included in this programme of world premiere recordings are two works written especially for the Sidney Sussex Choir and for this album.

This is a rather startling disc. The music is firmly rooted in the tradition of Gregorian chant and the great Italian polyphonists but flows from the pen of a 21st-century Roman...Skinner leads his young singers skilfully through these testing yet pleasing pieces that are both refreshingly new and comfortingly familiar.
