The second release from the Toronto-based Windermere String Quartet, Inner Landscapes presents three works by three diverse composers united across time by their individual quests to express the union of the spiritual and sensual in music. Beethoven’s Quartetto serioso (op. 95) is paired with 18th-year-old Felix Mendelssohn’s A Minor Quartet (op. 13) and juxtaposed with the world premiere recording of Canadian composer Robert Rival’s Traces of a Silent Landscape, written for the WSQ in 2011. The WSQ’s first release with Pipistrelle, The Golden Age of String Quartets, was widely praised for ‘period performances that blend life, spirit and soul with a perfectly judged sensitivity for contemporary style and practice.’
