Unknown until the nineties, Jean Cras is becoming progressively more and more familiar to classical music lovers. Together composer and admiral of the French navy, his music belongs to the highest French tradition, and sets him beside the most famous French composers of the time. Thus his style includes some modern elements, particularly in the rhythmics: the melodies he finds are longer, calmer, more sustained, the perspective of his planes is broader. Many of his works give the impression of unlimited space and the feeling of plenitude is dominant. Jean-Pierre Ferey has been involved with Jean Cras’s music for two decades. Working with the composer’s personal scores, the pianist has also performed these works in numerous concerts, each time particularly appreciated by the audience.
