About
Carlo Farina (c 1604-1639), in his rather short life, appeared at the courts of Parma, Lucca, Modena, Cologne, Prague, Dresden, Vienna and Danzig. He spent his most creative time at the court of the Saxonian electorate George I in Dresden. During this time he published all his known works in five collections.
The selection from these works presented on this recording splendidly documents the contemporary violin technique. Farina not only influenced the great German violinists of his time but also of later generations with names like Schmelzer, Biber and Walther.
Leila Schayegh’s recordings have been rewarded twice with the Diapason d‘Or of the Year (France), Gramophone Editor‘s Choice [for Bach Sonatas on Glossa GCD923507] and a long list of the best German record prizes. Her virtuoso and lively playing on this CD gives the listener an idea of the legacy Farina left behind.
