About
Kliphuis graduated from the Amsterdam Conservatoire a classical musician, but caught the improvisation bug during his studies. After meeting Stéphane Grappelli, the Parisian violinist with whom guitar legend Django Reinhardt created gypsy jazz, Kliphuis realised that improvisation was in his DNA. This music soon made him a name on the international scene: his albums are lauded worldwide and his study method Stéphane Grappelli Gypsy Jazz Violin, released with the renowned American publishing house Mel Bay, is now a standard work for the improvising violinist. The album Reflecting the Seasons, classical, jazz and folk meet in a completely natural way: “I’ve always wanted to do something like this, but it took until now to actually realise my vision. So I guess you can say I’m a late developer.”
